🇭🇷💦 CENTRAL CROATIA
MORE THAN A COASTLINE.
Croatia may be famous for its islands and Adriatic coastline, but head inland and the country changes completely. Central Croatia is home to Zagreb’s lively streets, café culture and history—and the turquoise lakes, forest trails and seemingly endless waterfalls of Plitvice Lakes National Park.
This is where you slow down and see another side of Croatia. Spend a few days eating and wandering your way through Zagreb, then trade city streets for wooden boardwalks winding through one of Europe’s most spectacular landscapes. And when you're ready? Keep going. The coast, the islands and the rest of Croatia are waiting.
START INLAND. THEN SEE WHERE THE DAMN TRIP TAKES YOU.

🇭🇷☕ ZAGREB
OLD-WORLD CHARM. YOUNG ENERGY. YOUR KIND OF PLACE.
Zagreb doesn’t scream for attention—and that’s part of what makes it so likable. Colorful streets, outdoor cafés, buzzing markets, great food and a historic Upper Town make Croatia’s capital an easy place to settle into for a couple of days before heading deeper into the country.
Start your morning wandering Dolac Market, grab coffee and watch the city go by, ride the little blue funicular up to the historic center, then spend the afternoon eating, drinking and exploring. By evening, find a table along Tkalčićeva Street, order something good and stay awhile. Zagreb is less about racing from monument to monument and more about actually enjoying being there.
Give it 2–3 days. Eat well. Wander slowly. Then go see what the rest of Croatia has waiting for you.
TWO TOURS.
TWO VERY DIFFERENT STORIES.
Zagreb’s history isn’t one story. One tour introduces you to the people, personalities and landmarks that shaped the city. The other digs into its darker 20th-century past. I chose both because depending on what kind of history grabs you, these are two very different ways to understand Zagreb.

🚶 NERD ALERT — MEET ZAGREB
SIT & MEET PRIVATE WALKING TOUR
WHY I PICKED IT: This isn't just another “follow the guide around and look at buildings” tour. You’ll meet Zagreb through the people, personalities and stories behind the city, while still seeing Dolac Market, Upper Town, Tkalčićeva Street and the funicular. It gives you the greatest hits without feeling like a greatest-hits tour.
History through the people who made the city.

🪖 HISTORY — ZAGREB'S OTHER STORY- PRIVATE WALKING TOUR
WHY I PICKED IT: Zagreb has beautiful squares, cafés and colorful streets—but its history gets a hell of a lot more complicated when you dig beneath the surface. This tour gets into WWII and Zagreb’s 20th-century story, including Grič Tunnel, originally built as an air-raid shelter.
I want to know what happened here, not just take pictures of it.
🏰🔥 EPIC DAY TRIP — GO FIND A HILLTOP CASTLE
TRAKOŠĆAN CASTLE & VARAŽDIN PRIVATE TOUR
WHY I PICKED IT: Because if there's a freaking castle sitting above a lake in the Croatian countryside, I want to go see it. Leave Zagreb behind for the day and head north to Trakošćan Castle before continuing to the beautiful Baroque city of Varaždin.
And here's what makes this one even better: it's private. No giant tour group, no following somebody holding a little flag. They pick you up, take you into the countryside and handle the logistics while you go explore a completely different side of Croatia.
CITY THIS MORNING. CASTLE BY LUNCH. NOT A BAD DAMN DAY. 🏰

💔 ONLY IN ZAGREB — LOVE WENT WRONG
MUSEUM OF BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS
People donate objects left behind after relationships end—and tell the story that goes with them. Some are hilarious. Some are completely ridiculous. Some will punch you right in the damn feelings.
WHY I PICKED IT: Because you can see another cathedral anywhere. You cannot go everywhere and find a museum dedicated to the weird, funny, painful shit humans keep after love falls apart. It’s quirky, incredibly human and exactly the kind of place you’ll still be talking about over drinks later.
LOVE IS COMPLICATED. APPARENTLY IT ALSO NEEDS A MUSEUM. 💔
🎈🔥 EPIC EXPERIENCE — HOLY SHIT, WE'RE DOING THAT.
HOT-AIR BALLOON FLIGHT OVER ZAGREB & ZAGORJE
WHY I PICKED IT: Because floating over the Croatian countryside in a freaking hot-air balloon while castles, vineyards, villages and rolling green hills pass underneath you is officially EPIC. Where you actually fly depends on the wind—which somehow makes the whole thing even cooler.
And when you land? Champagne. Because apparently Croatia understands how this should work. 😂
NO VIATOR LINK ON THIS ONE. I DON'T CARE. IT BELONGS HERE.
🎈 TELL ME YOUR VIBE.

🌍 GO BEYOND — DID YOU KNOW YOU COULD SEE SLOVENIA TOMORROW?
LJUBLJANA & LAKE BLED SMALL-GROUP DAY TOUR
WHY I PICKED IT: Because one of the coolest things about traveling through Europe is realizing another country can literally be tomorrow’s adventure. From Zagreb, cross into Slovenia, wander the streets of Ljubljana, then head to ridiculously beautiful Lake Bled before returning to Zagreb that evening.
This one caught my attention because it’s a Viator Agent Favorite, it’s small-group, and it gives you an easy taste of another country without packing your suitcase or changing hotels.
You might come back saying, “Shit. I need more Slovenia.”
Good. I can work with that.

🇭🇷💦 PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK
WATERFALLS. WILDERNESS. A DEEPER CONNECTION.
There are places that look beautiful in photos—and then there are places where you arrive and think, “Okay, the photos did not prepare me for this.” Plitvice Lakes is that place. Turquoise and emerald lakes spill into one another through waterfalls, forest and limestone cliffs, with wooden boardwalks carrying you right through the middle of it all.
But Plitvice isn't somewhere you come just to look at a waterfall and leave. Walk the trails, follow the boardwalks across the water, take the boat across the lake, stop constantly because the view somehow got even better, and give yourself enough time to actually experience the park instead of racing through it with a camera.
This is also one of those places where slowing the trip down pays off. Stay nearby, get an early start and experience Plitvice before your Croatia trip pulls you back toward cities, islands and the Adriatic.
MORE THAN A DESTINATION. A RESET. 💦🌲
🚐 FROM ZAGREB — JUST GET ME TO THE WATERFALLS
PLITVICE LAKES & RASTOKE SMALL-GROUP DAY TOUR
WHY I PICKED IT: You could rent a car, figure out the route, deal with parking and organize the park yourself. Or they can pick you up at your Zagreb hotel and handle the whole damn day. You’ll stop in the watermill village of Rastoke, spend around four hours exploring Plitvice, walk the lakes and boardwalks, cruise across the water by boat and hop aboard the panoramic train—all with a smaller group instead of following a giant tour bus around the park.
Come get me. Show me the waterfalls. Bring me home. Perfect.

🇭🇷 READY TO TURN THIS INTO A TRIP?
Maybe you want Zagreb and Plitvice. Maybe Slovenia just snuck onto the list. Maybe you're already picturing yourself in that damn balloon.
You don't need to have the whole trip figured out. Tell me what caught your attention, how you like to travel and what kind of experience you're after. I'll help you put the pieces together.
TELL ME YOUR VIBE. I’LL BUILD THE TRIP.
You’ve done enough dreaming.
